KTM X-BOW

More details of KTM's racing X-Bow have surfaced. Developed withReiter Engineering - they of demented Lamborghini fame - it looks notably different from the regular, roofless track car. In a rather wonderful way, we say.
The glass area is huge, with an almost panoramic screen wearing that most untypical of X-Bow options, a windscreen wiper.
Ahead of it is frontal styling even more madcap than its base car's, with huge headlight lenses, sharp creases and big air intakes. It looks wide. Very wide.
At its heart will be the mid-mounted 2.0-litre TFSI turbo four-cylinder engine familiar in X-Bows and nabbed from the VW group. Here it will produce ‘approximately' 320 bhp, making it around 10 per cent more powerful than in roofless road specification.
Quite how that will affect performance, given that you'd expect it to go hand-in-hand with vast improvements in aerodynamic efficiency, remains to be seen. But expect a 0-60 mph time little over three seconds and a top speed of around 150 mph.
The engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential paddleshift gearbox, made by Holinger. A more motorsport-minded ABS braking setup will also feature.
While the open-air X-Bow typically weighs around 800 kg, we've no idea quite what Reiter's racing iteration will tip the scales at. That's because of the SRO's ‘Balance of Performance' regulations (BOP); the car will need to be aligned with its GT4-class rivals to ensure close and competitive racing.
A figure will emerge once the car's BOP test has taken place in spring 2015. Reiter assures us it will be competitively priced among its GT4 foes, though.
"When you reflect on what the customer is being offered here in terms of the most modern racing technology, together with a very impressive safety concept, then you can really speak about it being exceptionally good value for money," asserts Reiter.
"Since the new car is based on the KTM X-Bow, the customer is going to get a racing car that has now been tested on the world's racing circuits for six years."

Infiniti Q60

Infiniti has released the first teaser image of its new Q60 concept car. It is set to make its debut at the Detroit motor show in January 2015. Infiniti has shown the image under the banner of "the power of exhilaration", and says that the Q60 concept’s styling offers "muscular lines" and "well defined contours". It is being billed as a “premium sports coupe concept”.
It is suggested that the two-door coupé is a look at the next-generation version of the Q60 that will come to international markets. The concept car takes styling cues from recent Infiniti models, including the range-topping Q80 Inspiration concept that was unveiled at the Paris motor show 2014. From the teaser, it looks like a combination of curves and sharp edges, and there are also the large five-spoke alloys.
The Q60 concept car will definitely offer hints to the production car. Further information is expected closer to the date of the unveiling.

The 367bhp Audi RS3

It's got more power than a BMW M135i and even the mighty Mercedes A45 AMG, and will happily keep up with an M3 to 62mph; welcome everyone, to the brand new, 2015 Audi RS3. And it's powerful.
How powerful? Only the most powerful car in this class. Though that Merc boasts the most power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot currently in production (360bhp), Audi has stuck with its acclaimed - and tasty - 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine, here producing a considerable 367bhp and 343lb ft of torque.
It sounds good, too (we've already had a hot ride in a development prototype), thanks to that 1-2-4-5-3 firing sequence and optional sports exhaust, but the key pub ammo you need to unleash is thus: it'll go from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds (versus 5.1s for the BMW M135i and 4.6s for the A45 AMG), and top out at a limited 155mph.
It's hooked up to a seven-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox with two automatic modes (and a manual shift function), together with launch control and, of course, Quattro four-wheel-drive. This uses a multi-plate clutch with custom software developed specifically for this new RS3, and is able to send anything between 50 and 100 per cent of the available torque to the rear axle. Slidey.
In fact, Audi's quite proud of this fact. "The driver is able to perform controlled drifts on low-friction road surfaces," we're told. There's torque vectoring, too, a wider front track, a 25 mm drop in ride height thanks to RS sport suspension, optional magnetic adaptive damping, 19-inch wheels, huge 370 mm brakes up front (310 mm at the rear), and many, many RS badges.
Wrapped up in its new RS suit - featuring that high-gloss black grille, air inlets, flared arches, ‘chiseled' side sills, roof spoiler, sports seats, RS steering wheel and impeccable interior quality - it weighs in at exactly 1520 kg. Which is 55 kg lighter than its predecessor. Thanks, MQB platform!
Deliveries will begin next year with no word on price just yet; we'd anticipate a hefty hike over the S3 Sportback's £32k starting price...

The new Ford Focus RS is coming

Good news! Ford has confirmed that it is working on an all-new Focus RS hot hatch.

It will form one of 12 new performance vehicles built for ‘global enthusiasts' by the year 2020, under the Blue Oval's new ‘Ford Performance' team.

Raj Nair, Ford group vice president of global product development, confirmed that the range-topping hot hatch will return "to customers in major markets around the world for the first time" - meaning everyone on planet earth will be able to access the RS.
Naturally, powertrain details at this stage haven't been revealed, but considering the current ST runs a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder packing 250 bhp, we'd expect Ford to use the 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine as featured in the new Mustang (the last RS remember, used a 2.5-litre five-pot).

And because the new RS is entering a very different hot hatch landscape, a power output of at least 330 bhp to 340 bhp would be a safe bet. The Merc A45 AMG packs 360 bhp from it's turbo'd four-pot, while the new Audi RS3 is expected to pack at least this much from it's 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine.

Ford has also promised that the new Focus RS will be a fighty bugger. "To earn the RS badge," explains Nair, "the vehicle has to be a no-compromise driver's car that can deliver exceptional performance on the track when required while providing excellent every day driving."

It'll most likely be front-wheel-drive, Ford no doubt utilising its experience from the last Focus RS's RevoKnuckle technology to somehow make the power a more manageable lump.

We will of course, bring you more as we get it, but the bigger picture stands like this: Ford's SVT, Team RS and Racing teams will unify under the Ford Performance team banner, to serve "as an innovation laboratory and test bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories and experiences for customers." Does this open up the potential of more Ford-approved performance upgrades? We'd think so

"Ford still races for the same reasons Henry Ford did in 1901," said Nair. "The Ford Performance team will continue to pursue performance innovation, ensuring we can deliver even more coveted performance cars, utilities and trucks to customers around the world."

Maruti Ertiga spied

The Maruti Ertiga,  like many of its smaller cars, has been keeping the cash registers ringing (somewhat) for the company. Maruti didn’t feel the need to refresh the car even after three years since its launch. However, growing competition from cars like the Honda Mobilio and now the upcoming Datsun Go+ have forced Maruti designers to go back to their drawing boards.

The changes in the new Ertiga gleaned from this set of photos are a new front bumper, redesigned headlamps and new alloys. Inside the cabin, the updated Maruti Ertiga is expected to have electrically retractable mirror switches and push button start in the top end trim. Maruti can also be safely expected to put in the AMT in the facelifted Ertiga as is evident from the image of the interior. Like the facelifted Swift, the new Ertiga will also get reworked engines which should deliver more kilometres to the litre.

Sneak peek at the new Audi Q7 SUV

These are the first images of the much-awaited second-generation Audi Q7 SUV. The new Q7 SUV looks sharper than the car it replaces and seems less bulky as well.

The second-generation Q7 is based on Volkswagen group’s MLB platform and is expected to be as much as 363 kg lighter. Audi’s signature Matrix LED headlights will also be on offer in the new Q7. The current range of six- and eight-cylinder engines is expected to be carried over with minor tweaks to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

Audi will also add an e-tron variant to the next-generation Q7 range which will be powered by the combination of a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and an electric motor.

The carmaker will officially unveil the new Audi Q7 at the upcoming Detroit motor show 2015.

Next-gen Skoda Superb teased

Skoda has released the first set of teaser images of the next-generation Superb sedan. It will be positioned like its predecessor at the higher-end of the executive sedan segment in our market.
The next-generation Skoda Superb is expected to be underpinned by the same mechanicals that are also seen on the new Volkswagen Passat (B8). This means it will be two generations ahead of the current car as it skips the B7 platform on which the current Volkswagen Passat is based. By using these new underpinnings, the 2016 Skoda Superb will lose 75 kg despite being 20 mm longer and 50 mm wider than the current car.  The new Superb will also be longer, featuring an addition of 80 mm to its wheelbase. The Superb’s boot is expected to offer 625 litres of space with the rear seats up, and 1,760 litres when folded down.
The current Superb sedan’s strong points are the high levels of equipment, the high-quality materials used in the cabin and the generous legroom for rear passengers. The next-gen Superb is expected to carry forward the same strengths and additionally, it could get a slightly larger cabin and even better quality materials on the inside. As far as engines are concerned, we expect the new Skoda Superb to stick to the same 2.0-litre diesel unit but with more power. It will offer 170 bhp, similar to the Volkswagen Passat. The transmissions are not likely to change; the new Superb will continue with a six-speed manual and an automatic DSG gearbox.
The new Skoda Superb will be unveiled globally in February 2015 and will be displayed for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show 2015.Expect Skoda to launch the new Superb in India soon after its global launch.

BMW 6-series

BMW has unveiled its updated 6-series coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe, as well as the updated M6 range. The updated 6-series line-up will be first shown to public at the upcoming Detroit Motor show 2015.
However, the changes to the BMW 6-series range are barely detectable. The biggest change on the exterior is a mildly re-styled front bumper and a kidney grille with a new look; the headlights are new and now come with a standard LED main beam set up. At the back, the rear bumper gets a minor styling tweak. The alloy wheels get a new design too, and the six-cylinder car will get 17-inch rims, while the V8 models get 18-inch wheels.
The interior of the updated 6-series range are of higher quality, there are two new colour shades on offer for the leather trim, and there is a standard heads-up display on offer too.
Mechanically, the updated 6-series line-up is the same as the earlier range. However, there is a marginal improvement in efficiency, and all the 6-series models are now EU6 compliant. They accelerate faster and have a better in-gear performance as well. The updated 6-series petrol motors now get a sports exhaust with a switchable flap as standard.
The petrol motors include a 316 bhp 3.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged in-line six in the 640i, and a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 good for 444 bhp in the 650i that has a claimed 0-100 kph timing of 4.6 sec and a limited top-speed of 250 kph for the rear-wheel drive coupe.  The updated 6-series diesel range gets a 3.0-litre motor good for 309 bhp in the 640d. This model is now more fuel efficient and has better emission control as well. A standard eight-speed automatic gearbox does duty in all models; it comes with remote steering wheel-mounted shift paddles too. The updated 6-series range also gets an all-wheel drive system for some international markets, which has resulted in a 75 kg weight increase. However, it provides better traction.
The updated BMW M6 coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe come with the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor that is good for a massive 552 bhp. The M6 range comes as a rear-wheel drive only, and channels power via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox and an electronically controlled M-differential.  The updated M6 coupe does 0-100 kph in 4.2 sec and its top speed is limited to 250 kph.  The updated M6 range is also available with an optional Competition Package which raises power by 15 bhp and improves 0-100 kph timing by 0.1 second. The Competition Package also gets detailed suspension tweaks, a more direct steering ration and unique 20-inch wheels.
We expect BMW to bring the updated 6-series range in India sometime next year.

Audi A3 Cabriolet launched

Audi has launched the A3 Cabriolet in India at ₹ 44.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Cabriolet carries a higher price tag than its sedan counterpart because it will be fully imported by Audi as a CBU. This soft-top iteration of the A3 was first showcased at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2014.
In terms of design, the Cabriolet looks pretty similar to the sedan. The fabric roof of this two-door, four-seater can be retracted in less than 18 seconds, and till speeds of up to 50 kph. It retains the bi-xenon headlamps with daytime running LEDs and LED tail lamps.
The cabin is similar to the sedan model, and features and equipment too are similar to those found in the A3 sedan. Mechanically, the A3 Cabriolet drops the diesel engine and comes with the petrol option only. Power comes from the 177 bhp 1.8-litre TFSI engine mated to a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Hyundai i20 coupe

Hyundai has unveiled a three-door version of its i20 hatchback. The Korean car manufacturer’s new entrant will compete with the likes of Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo in the international markets.
The i20 coupe gets a large hexagonal grille. It is flanked by fog lights to the side, and the LED headlamps have LED daytime running lamps incorporated into them. The front looks more muscular than the current generation i20, while the bonnet and the sides retain Hyundai’s fluidic lines. At the rear, the i20 Coupe gets larger tail lights, and the roofline at the back gets a spoiler. This, and the more raked A, B and C pillars add to the overall sporty look of the coupe. The car also gets 17-inch wheels, which look perfectly well suited for the look of the car.
Despite the roofline being 25 mm lower than the current generation i20, Hyundai says that the headroom, legroom and shoulder space have remained unchanged. In fact, the manufacturer claims that boot space has actually gone up by 10-litres.
For power, Hyundai has unveiled four engine options – two diesel and two petrol. The petrol offerings include the 82.9 bhp, 1248 cc petrol engine and a 98.6 bhp, 1,368 cc petrol engine. 74 bhp, 1,120 cc and 88.8 bhp, 1,396 cc diesel engines are also available. Both the diesel cars come with a six-speed manual transmission, and so does the 1.4-litre diesel engine. The 1.25-litre petrol engine is available with a five-speed manual, and the 1.4-litre petrol is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai may add a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to the range in 2015.
Based on the Elite i20 hatchback sold in our market, the new i20 Coupe will go on sale in the international markets next year. Don't expect Hyundai to launch the three-door i20 in India.

Mercedes-Benz GLE

The Mercedes-Benz GLE coupé was set to debut at the North American International Auto Show but images of the car were leaked online early on. This led Mercedes-Benz to go ahead and officially unveil the coupe. The GLE is positioned to take on the BMW X6.
The GLE coupé features a prominent front fascia with a single bar grille that runs across a wide front radiator opening with LED headlights flanking it. It has a dynamic roofline and a rear end which resembles that of the S-class coupé. It gets plastic body cladding, and chrome trims on the front and rear, dual exhaust system and 20-inch wheels as standard. 21- and 22-inch wheels will be available as options for those looking to upgrade. As for the interiors, a sports steering wheel, sports seats, and a new infotainment system make it to the GLE. Aluminum or wood trims with silver shadow accents are also added in.
The GLE also gets the AMG treatment, with the GLE 450 AMG. It gets an aggressive AMG body kit, and 21-inch light alloy wheels. It also gets air suspension, an adaptive damping system and adjustable ride height. On the inside, it gets a nappa leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and a carbonfibre trim.
On the engine front, there is a 254 bhp 3.0-litre diesel and a 3.0-litre V6 petrol tuned to make 328.5 abhp in the standard car and 362 bhp in the AMG version. Power is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox which offers a driving mode selector system with five modes – Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. In the AMG version, the different driving modes not only modulate chassis, suspension, steering wheel and powertrain settings but also other aspects like engine sound and driving lights.
"The GLE coupé combines typical coupé attributes, such as sportiness, dynamism and agility, with the confident presence, versatility and robustness of an SUV", said Thomas Weber, board member responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development.

New Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid unveiled

Volvo has introduced an all-new plug-in hybrid, the XC90 T8. The XC90 T8 gets power from a twin-engine set up - a specially modified Drive E petrol four-cylinder petrol engine powering the front wheels and an electric motor that will power the rear axle. Volvo has designed this hybrid from the ground up.
The new XC90 T8 is based on the new modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) chassis system, which had been in development for the past four years. The powertrain has also been optimized specifically for plug-in hybrid technology. The four-pot Drive E engine gets a supercharger and a turbocharger, and has been tuned to produce 318bhp and 40.78kgm of torque. The electric motor is capable of making 80.04bhp and 24.5kgm of torque. It gets power from a high voltage battery operating in the range of 270-400V. Transmission duties are handled by a specially adapted eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Volvo XC90 T8 uses a brake-by-wire system to recover and transmit energy back into the car, which can be used to recharge the battery. Volvo says that it has also equipped the car with a unique stability function that controls the amount of energy that may be safely regenerated. The battery, crankshaft-mounted starter generator and the electric motor are cooled by a unique system, which uses the radiator (passively) or through integration with the car’s climate control system (actively).
As far as driving modes go, the Volvo XC90 T8 has five, which can be selected using a scroll wheel on the centre console. The Hybrid mode alternates between the engine and the electric motor to get the best overall fuel consumption. The Power mode allows for the use of the electric motor and the combustion engine together, to get the best of both worlds. In the pure electric mode, the battery serves as the only power source for the car, and run the car for up to 40km on electric power only. The AWD mode allows for the use of all-wheel-drive on demand. Last, but not the least, in the Save mode, if the battery is charged, the system saves as much battery life as it can for later use with the Pure Electric drive.
With the XC90 T8, Volvo Cars has said that it assures performance of a luxury SUV, while keeping emission levels to a minimum and fuel efficiency at a high 40kpl.

Next-generation Jaguar XF to debut in 2015

Jaguar has confirmed that the new XF sedan will make its global debut at the New York motor show in April 2015. The British carmaker mounted a fresh offensive on the German troika with the launch of the all-new XE sedan, and now looks to step it up by bringing in the new XF to take on the likes of the BMW 5-series, the Audi A6 and the Merc E-class.
Now that Jaguar is planning to give its entire line-up a similar look as showcased by the new XE, it is no surprise that a lot of design elements on the new XF look similar to the XE sedan. It is also being suggested that the new XF will have sharper bodylines, and the face will have the XE-like grille, albeit a little bigger.
On the inside too, the new XF will draw heavily from the smaller XE sedan. The most prominent of all new additions will be Jaguar’s new infotainment system, which includes the InControl Apps system that is described by its makers as “one of the most advanced voice recognition packages in the world”.
The new Jaguar XF will also be based on the aluminium iQ[Al] platform as the XE. This platform was first shown by Jaguar in the C-X17 concept in 2013. It is not only flexible and scalable, but also lighter as compared to the chassis in the current XF. This new iQ[Al] platform will help the new XF shed around 50-100kg. Additional drop in weight will come because the new XF will be powered by JLR’s Ingenium range of engines, which are up to 80kg lighter than the equivalent Ford engines in the current car. This cumulative weight-reduction can in turn be utilised to achieve better fuel efficiency or better drivability.
As for the Indian markets, considering that the new XE sedan is not expected anytime before 2016, the new XF will only be launched later. JLR’s Ingenium engines though, will debut soon on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. They will make it to the XE later and will eventually power the XF.

Jaguar C-X17-based model "is not an SUV"

Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth has said that the new Jag, based on the C-X17 concept showcased last year, will be a sport-biased offering. Although a 4x4, the new car should not be called an SUV, according to Speth. This C-X17 based model is expected to make it to global markets in 2016, and has been confirmed to be heavily focussed on on-road dynamics rather than off-road.
“A Jaguar SUV is not possible,” said Speth. “SUVs and 4x4s are for Land Rover. The Jaguar concept is far more road-orientated. It will need a different kind of name.” For now, the JLR crew seems to be referring to it as a sports crossover. The car will be dynamically and aggressively styled, yet will offer something very different from what a Land Rover offers.
“Mike Cross and his vehicle dynamics team will do an extraordinary job to make sure that it is sensational to drive on the road. It will be something special in that regard. Of course, it will not be anything like a sports car, but it will have a very specific character that sets it apart,” said Speth.

Jaguar XF Executive Edition launched

Jaguar has launched a cheaper version of the Jaguar XF 2.2-litre diesel, which was until now only available in the Luxury trim. This new Jaguar XF Executive Edition has been priced at ₹ 45.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It, however, misses out on some features that the Luxury trim gets.
In comparison to the standard Jaguar XF, the Executive Edition does not get memory function for the driver seat and mirrors; it gets rear parking sensors but no rearview camera; and no Front Passenger Seat Away button. The Front Passenger Seat Away button comfortably lets the driver or the passenger in the backseat adjust the front seat for better legroom. The Jaguar XF Executive Edition also misses out on a sunroof and a TV tuner. In place of leather seats, it gets fabric seats, and the interior mood lighting here has been kept simple. The new Jaguar XF Executive Edition will continue to draw power from a 2.2-litre diesel engine, mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox, which is the same motor that the higher trim gets.

Ferrari Sergio

A year after the passing away of Italian design house Pininfarina’s figurehead, Sergio Pininfarina in 2012, the company built a concept as a tribute to him. After getting a 2013 Geneva unveil and a positive response from the public, it was decided that six models of the Ferrari Sergio will be made in collaboration with Ferrari. Each of the six cars will be made according to specifications given by their owner in a series of sessions at Ferrari's workshop in Maranello, while the final assembly will be done at the Pininfarina plant in Italy.
Ferrari has now revealed the first of the six examples of the ‘Ferrari Sergio’ in Abu Dhabi. The Ferrari Sergio is based around the Ferrari 458 Spider, and features the latest iteration of the company's 597bhp 4.5-litre V8 engine, which also powers the Ferrari 458 Speciale. With this engine, the Sergio will be capable of achieving 0-100kph in 3.0sec.
As for the design of the Ferrari Sergio, the core structure of the 458 Spider has been retained. It also uses all of the interior components of the car, although the cockpit has been reworked to include black leather upholstery with red stitching, a carbon dashboard, door well trims and Alacantara leather seat inserts. The wheelbase and the track remain unchanged. However, the Sergio’s bodyshell has been claimed to be stiffer than the 458 Spider’s, and it is about 100kg lighter too.
Fabio Filippini, Pininfarina's chief designer said, "We asked Ferrari before even drawing the car, if we could do it and Luca di Montezemolo said we had all of his support. We decided it should be a mid-engined Ferrari because the first Sergio Ferrari was the Dino Berlinetta Speciale, the ancestor of all mid-engined Ferraris." Luca di Montezemolo recently stepped down from his post of chairman at Ferrari. The pricing of the Ferrari Sergio has not been revealed, however it is estimated to be around 2.5 million pounds (approx Rs 24 crore).

BMW unveils X5 M Individual, X6 M Individual

Following the recent debut of the new X5 M and X6 M at the LA motor show, BMW has put the two performance SUV through some "Individual" customisations. The BMW X5 M Individual and X6 M Individual get a couple of visual and equipment upgrades over the standard models.
Both cars get special paint jobs. The X5 Individual gets a Pyrite Brown metallic paint, which has Xirallic pigments that make certain areas appear like a darker hue than the others, while the X6 Individual gets Azurite Black metallic paint with shades of blue in it. On the inside, both the X5 M Individual and X6 M Individual benefit from white Merino leather upholstery & a matching white Alcantara leather headliner. They also get some piano black inserts and a leather-wrapped dashboard with contrast stitching.
Power to the two models comes from the same engine as the standard models. The 4.4-litre V8 twin turbo engine makes 564bhp and 76.5kgm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
BMW will not sell these models in India.

More Luxury Porsche's coming

Following the outstanding response to the limited-edition Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive Exclusive,Porsche is planning to come up with more such high-end special editions. The Panamera Turbo S Executive Exclusive was limited to 100 units for international markets, and it got sold out within 48 hours.
“I wish we’d offered more cars for sale; the response has been incredible,” said Wolfgang Hatz, head of R&D, Porsche. “But we have tested the appetite for such a car, and we have tested some suppliers to ensure they can deliver. We have learned from the project, and I’m sure we will do more in future.” he added, at the Los Angeles auto show this year.
The special edition Panamera Executive Exclusive is long-wheelbase version of the Panamera, and gets options like rear seat entertainment package, special hand-finished two-tone paintjob and choice of premium leather upholstery from the Italian company Poltrona Frau.

McLaren Sports Series spied testing

McLaren’s upcoming Sports Series, earlier referred to with the codename P13, has been spied testing for the first time. The spy pictures indicate some interesting details about the car.
The Sports Series range sports a completely different aerodynamic package compared to the other models from McLaren. The car spied testing has a front-end that sits very close to the ground. The rear end is also new, looking longer from the B-pillar's back. This could mean that McLaren is considering giving more space behind the front seats to make the car more practical. The doors open in an upright way, moving away from the car’s body. Production versions of the Sports Series will use a modified version of the 650S' carbonfibre composite chassis.
Ricardo-built twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, which comes on other models from the manufacturer is also expected to make its way to the range. The entry-level Sports Series model is believed to be able to go from 0-100kph in around 4sec, and will achieve a top speed of around 298kph.
Company boss Mike Flewitt said: “The P13 (Sports Series) will be a very engaging car to drive. It will be fun but safe.” He also told that the Sports Series will be more practical, thanks to the changes to the sills of the tub which will help improve access.
Models from the Porsche 911-rivaling Sports Series will each get their own specific name, while a company official said that no model names had yet been confirmed. Pricing for the range is likely to start from £125,000 (approximately ₹ 1.2 crore), however import duties imposed will make models from the range much costlier.

Jaguar XK may make a comeback in GT form

Jaguar may bring back the XK as a more focused GT car, according to Russ Varney, who was the project leader for the car before it was axed this year. He also oversees the development of the Jaguar F-type.
Varney said “The heart of Jaguar is in sports cars, and that is why we will now regard the F-type as the halo product for all that we do. However, I don’t think that means the XK is dead necessarily.
“The car straddled the GT and sports car segment, with more of an emphasis on the GT side, but probably not enough of an emphasis on the sports car side. There is no reason the XK couldn’t exist today as a true contender in that GT segment.
“We have plans to do lot more with the F-type, and we expect it to cover a lot of bases, but there will still be other areas we want to cover. We need to find the right way to deliver on them, and the XK could be one way of doing that.”

LaFerrari Spider spied

The LaFerrari is the epitome of Ferrari’s technical abilities when it comes to street cars. With its beautifully sculpted body designed by Pininfarina, the LaFerrari is already quite beautiful. That said, reports suggest a new limited production spider version of the LaFerrari will soon be released.
LaFerrari Spider
A mysterious LaFerrari test mule was recently spotted outside the Maranello factory hinting at yet another version of the hybrid hypercar. Reports suggest that the spider version will get a set of conventional doors instead of the trademark butterfly doors which could explain the different design of the doors on the test car. The test mule also has a set of different wheels, with smaller ones up front which might be for some sort of performance testing.
The LaFerrari spider will be powered by the same 6.3-litre V12 engine with 800 PS of power and supplemented by a 163 PS electric motor giving a total of 963 PS of peak power. The LaFerrari spider will most probably cost upwards of three million dollars and will feature a two piece removable roof like the Lamborghini Aventador roadster.

Next-gen Nissan leaf could have 400km range

Nissan has reportedly developed a lighter and higher capacity battery that promises to double the range of the Leaf to around 400km.Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said in a Tokyo Business News Channel interview that the company is putting final touches on batteries that will double the range of its Leaf EV. The clip isn’t available online for validation though.
Next gen Nissan Leaf could have a 400km range
Nissan’s chief spokesperson Jeff Kuhlman was quizzed about the claim to which Jeff didn’t confirm or deny. Kuhlman said that at Nissan, “we continue our R&D efforts because we believe that we can do more with battery electric, and very soon take the issue of range off of the table. In other words, cars with a comparable range to today’s petrol vehicles.” Further, an engineering source is quoted saying, “Commercial applications could be no more than one model cycle away,” on these 400km range batteries.
No further details on the technology and innovation done to expand this range are given at the moment. But with range anxiety off the table and cost of the technology coming down, is it finally the time for electric vehicles to become mainstream options? Only time will tell. We know the answers will best be found with Nissan’s next generation leaf.

DC Avanti

DC Avanti is India’s first true sports car, slated to launch in early 2015 at a price of approximately ₹ 35 lakh.  The DC Avanti is a mid-engined sports car. To begin with, the Avanti is really big at a length of 4550 mm, 1965 mm wide and 1200 mm in height. To give you a fair idea of its real world dimensions: the Lamborghini Gallardo is 4,345 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,165 mm in height, in comparison.  DC has also tried to make the car as usable as possible in India, and has given it a ground clearance of 170 mm - which is the same as a Maruti Suzuki Swift's. This is to make it more suitable for Indian roads. The chassis is a box section space frame, which has been overbuilt to help handle it better on Indian roads. The body of the car uses carbonfibre in many parts, which have been crafted in-house, which is placed on top of the chassis.

Between the seat back and the rear wheels is the mid-mounted is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which makes 248 bhp, and 24.6 kgm of torque. Helping put all that power to the road are 20-inch wheels with 255/35 tyres mounted on the front, and 295/30 tyres mounted on the rear. A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard on the car. Stopping power for the car comes from 330 mm ventilated four-pot disc brakes at the front and 295 mm at the rear. Anti-lock braking system, which has been developed by Continental, comes standard on the Avanti. The suspension uses a double wishbone on all four wheels, monotube with gas-charged shock absorbers. It uses coil springs to perform the dampening duties.

As for the interiors, the Avanti gets a three-spoke steering wheel, hooded dials, a centre console with stacked screens, chrome surrounds and body colored separators. It also comes with a touchscreen infotainment system and soft touch buttons for the air-conditioning system. The final car is expected to come with a digital instrument panel, and few new bits on the centre console too.

When launched, DC Avanti will be priced at ₹ 35 lakh.

Vauxhall Viva

This is the new Vauxhall Viva.Vauxhall's latest budget city car offering to sit below the Adam and Corsa.
To those of a certain vintage, then, this news will come as a surprise; the original Viva don't forget, was rather larger, and a bit of a classic.Either way, this new one is designed for ‘modern, everyday life'.
It'll be powered by the same three-pot 1.0-litre petrol engine found in the Adam and new Corsa, developing 74 bhp in this iteration. This engine will, of course, drive the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
We're told the chassis and steering have been engineered for ‘safety and class-leading comfort', while the exterior gets Vauxhall's ‘blade' side design (as seen on the Insignia and Astra GTC), a winged chrome bar up front and huge head- and tail- lights.
There'll be all manner of gadgetry including the ability to sync with Apple and Android operating systems. Then there's ESP, ABS, hill start assist and even the option of lane departure warning.
Push a button, and the steering will get even lighter to assist you while parking. Tick the right option boxes, and this steering wheel can be heated, too.
If you're trying to work out where the Viva slots into Vauxhall's busy small-car line-up, think of it as the firm's answer to Fiat's Panda: simple and utilitarian against the more modish Adam. Which, in this comparison, is the 500. Did that make any sense at all?
"On sale next year at an extremely attractive price point, Viva joins new Corsa and Adam in a compelling small car portfolio," explains Vauxhall's Tim Tozer, who earlier this year promised us his firm would ‘give Ford a bloody good run for their money in small cars'. That's fighting talk, there.
No word on that attractive price point, but it'll be cheaper than the Corsa, so expect around or just under £ 9000.

Mercedes GLE 63 AMG Coupe

The Mercedes GLE 63 AMG Coupe has been spotted testing on international roads, and this production ready mule shows typical AMG treatment. It was first previewed in concept form at the Beijing motor show 2014.
The GLE 63 AMG gets a aggressive front, thanks to the single-slat grille and the larger, wider air dam and the ventilated hood. Other cosmetic elements include plastic body cladding, side steps, metallic accents, rear spoiler, quad exhausts and bright red calipers for the brakes. The silhouette of the car closely resembles a mix between an SUV and a swoopy coupe, much like the BMW X6.
In terms of mechanicals, it will reportedly be powered by a 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine that makes 518 bhp and 71.4 kgm of torque.

Ferrari FXXK

Ferrari has just taken the wraps off the race spec version of the LaFerrari hypercar, called the FXXK. The FXXK, where XX denotes Ferrari’s ultra exclusive racing program and K denotes Kinetic energy recovery makes 1050 PS of peak power from its 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine and electric motor combination.
Ferrari FXXK Front
The internal combustion engine makes 860 PS of peak power while the electric motor makes an additional 190 PS of peak power. The engine has been substantially overhauled for track duty, with new camshafts, redesigned intake manifolds and a set of mechanical tappets replacing the traditional hydraulic ones. Ferrari has also completely done away with the silencers on the exhaust system which results in the FXXK making a heaven like note.
Ferrari FXXK rear
Externally, the FXXK comes with a whole new aero package including huge front cannards, a new front splitter and two huge rear split spoilers. A massive rear diffuser that optimises the air flow from under the car rounds up the crazy exterior design on the FXXK. Ferrari claims that the aero adds about 50 percent more downforce than the original LaFerrari giving it a staggering 540 kg@130 mph. Although Ferrari hasn’t unveiled any priced on numbers on these cars, we think about 20 will be built, each at a cost of about ₹ 20 crore (before taxes). That said, these cars are strictly race spec automobiles and can never be legally driven on the road.

Maserati Alferi

Maserati has made it officially official that its gorgeous Alfieri concept previewed earlier this year will go into production.
Following months of speculation about the concept car, set to rival Jaguar's F-Type, the company confirmed that both it and the Maserati SUV will actually appear on a road near you in the future.
You can expect to see the Alfieri production car between 2016 and 2017, sporting either a V6 or V8 turbo engine powering the rear wheels, as seen in the Ghibli. Of course, you'll know all about this, because Top Gear's Paul Horrell told you as much as early as last summer.
Frankly, this is excellent news, aptly delivered in the year of Maserati's centennial celebration. "It is the year of the Alfieri," explains Maser CEO Harald Wester, "an amazing concept car built to mark the Centennial, named after our founder.
"It is the year in which customers and fans celebrate our glorious past, enjoy a present in which the product range is wider than ever, and look eagerly forward to the launch of the Maserati SUV, to be followed by the Alfieri, as the concept car goes into production," he added.

The flagship Cayenne Turbo continues with the 4.8-litre V8 that makes a whopping 513 bhp.
As of now, Porsche has introduced only four variants. The Turbo S, which is the most powerful of the Cayenne variants, could be introduced sometime later. When it does, it’ll boast of enough power and torque to rival SUVs from the Mercedes AMG wing.

Cayenne diesel – ₹ 1.04 crore
Cayenne S – ₹ 1.18 crore
Cayenne S diesel – ₹ 1.21 crore
Cayenne Turbo – ₹ 1.78 crore

Honda Grace

Honda Motor Co. started sales of the all-new Grace hybrid sedan across Japan today. This car is very similar to the City in India, albeit with a few cosmetic changes, and a hybrid drivetrain.

The all-new Grace is equipped with Honda’s Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive (i-DCD) that combines a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, 7-speed dual-clutch transmission gearbox with a built-in electric motor, and the “Intelligent Power Unit” with a built-in lithium-ion battery. The Intelligent Power Unit was developed by the Japanese carmaker with the aim of making every component lighter, more compact and more efficient.

The all-new Grace offers a four-wheel-drive version in its series line-up. One of the major highlights of this car is its high fuel efficiency. It is expected to give 34.4 kpl which, Honda claims, is the best among all hybrid models in that market.

The only features on the exterior of the car that set it apart from our Honda City are a blue-tinted chrome trim on the front grille, a mildly revised front bumper for better aerodynamics, LED tail lights and a small bootlid spoiler. The Grace gets 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, while only the top-spec EX trim gets 16-inchers for two-wheel-drive models; the four-wheel-drive version gets 15-inchers.

As far as the interiors go, the only changes are the small blue gear selector in place of the one that comes on the City, and the instrument cluster to read out battery level information. Besides this, the interiors are identical. The Grace comes loaded with features such as Vehicle Stability Assist (which is Honda’s term for electronic stability control), hill start to make driving up slopes easier, heated front seats, and side and curtain airbags. Honda has also added a car equipped with a rotating front passenger seat to make things easier for people with special needs.

Honda has priced the base model of the Grace at Yen 1,950,000 (₹ 10.14 lakh,$ 16,159) and is targeting sales of 300 units a month.

Although the Honda Grace has a lot in common with the City sedan sold in India, we don’t expect Honda to bring in the Grace here anytime soon due to lack of significant benefits on offer on hybrid vehicles, which could result in a high sticker price.

Tata Kite spied

Tata Motors has big plans for the Indian market and this test mule caught here is one of them. The Tata Kite sedan has been spied testing near Tata Motors’ Pimpri plant and will be a replacement for the Indigo eCS.
2015-Tata-Kite-Compact-Sedan-Spyshot-21-1024x576
Both the Kite hatchback and sedan will be based on the old Indica platform and reports claim that the chassis has been reworked to reduce the weight as well as the NVH. The Kite sedan will measure under four metres and will come with both petrol and diesel motors. While the petrol will be the recently introduced 1.2-litre turbo Revotron, the diesel is expected to be an all-new 1.05-litre unit first featured in the Manza hybrid at the 2012 Auto Expo. It is also likely that the Kite sedan and hatchback will come with manual as well as automated transmissions.
2015-Tata-Kite-Compact-Sedan-Spyshot-21-1024x576
The Kite sedan and hatchback will be slotted below the upcoming Bolt and the already launched Zest cars. Prices for the Zest range start from ₹ 4.64 lakh ex-Delhi, so expect the Kite sedan to be priced around the ₹ 4 lakh mark. At that price point, it may turn out to be quite a serious contender in the sedan segment and perhaps even undercut most of the hatchbacks as well.
